- one virtuoso etude
- one piece composed after 1945 (e.g. Stockhausen, Ligeti, Gubaidulina, Takemitsu, Yun, Boulez, Henze, Cage) or a work composed before 1945 by Schönberg, Berg, Webern, Messiaen
- sight-reading
All works must be performed from memory, with the exception of those composed after 1945.
