Research & Innovation
Looking to the future, our University is increasingly focusing on research and innovation: In addition to an interdisciplinary professorship for research and human-animal studies, another professorship for artificial creativity and musical interaction will be added. This new area will research AI-supported scenarios of musical interaction and make a central contribution to the development of artificial creativity and the reflection of its methods as a new key competence.
What the Nuremberg University of Music is currently trying to do with Spirio is one of the most interesting current international experiments in the field of AI; according to most scientists, this is where AI becomes truly creative.
With the realization of highly innovative possibilities of musical creation, mediation and interaction, the HfM Nuremberg has achieved a nationally outstanding position in the research field of music and artificial intelligence.
Musical collaborations
As part of a long-standing collaboration with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra, students at the university can gain experience in a professional orchestra as part of a master's programme. Together with the Nuremberg State Theatre, the university runs the International Opera Studio master's programme, and concerts and symposia are regularly held at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the Neues Museum. With more than 250 events per academic year, the numerous ensembles, jazz combos, symphony orchestra, madrigal choir, and university choir regularly enrich the cultural offerings of the Nuremberg metropolitan region.
Digital teaching
The Nuremberg University of Music is also focusing on digital teaching. As part of a program funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, the focus is on the further development of higher education didactics – towards more student-centeredness and the establishment of sound digital teaching and learning formats.
