Key skillsYour tool for the future

Key skills are much more than specialist knowledge. They are your foundation for being flexible, confident and successful in your professional life. At NUM, we prepare you for the challenges of the music profession with the skills, attitudes and behaviours you learn during your studies. Our key skills are grouped into four areas, designed to meet the needs of music students. And best of all, you decide which subjects are most important to you and your career!

Our four compulsory electives give you everything you need:

  • Media and digitality
  • Health and exercise strategies
  • Design, transfer and sustainability
  • Music market and self-management

Media and digitalityGet ready for the digital future

These electives focuse on the growing importance of digitalisation and the media world. Learn how to use digital sheet music, notation software, score creation and arrangement. Perfect your self-presentation - whether on camera or in public - and create professional video and audio recordings. You can also pick up valuable tips on media skills and digital projects. Get ready for the digital stage!

Health and exercise strategiesFind the balance

As a musician you are under constant pressure to perform, but your body is not a machine! In this elective, you will learn how to manage your rehearsal process effectively and look after your health at the same time. In addition to yoga, relaxation techniques and performance training, you can expect courses focusing on self-management, team management and emotional health. Holistic methods such as the Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais will help you stay productive and creative in the long term.

Design, transfer and sustainabilityCreating tomorrow

Society is changing rapidly and you, as a musician, have the opportunity to create and inspire. In this compulsory elective, you will develop your own projects that are not only musically but also socially relevant. Whether it is innovative concert formats, exciting outreach strategies or projects for people "far removed" from classical music, you will gain valuable experience in the conception and realisation of events. Your artistic potential meets visions for the future!

Music market and self-managementMake a successful start

The music market can be complex - but with the right tools you will be well prepared. In this compulsory elective area, you will learn everything you need for a successful career: music law, project management, business start-ups and market analysis. You will develop self-organisation skills and optimise your time and resource management. You will also learn how to present yourself professionally to the public and master online communication. Your entry into the music market starts here!
