The Leipzig-born double bassist, teacher and composer has been Professor of Jazz Double Bass at the Nuremberg University of Music since 1 October 2024. A warm welcome!

Prof Lucaciu answered three questions about his new position:

1. What are you most looking forward to in your new position?

I'm really looking forward to the wide range of organisational opportunities that this new position offers. I'm particularly looking forward to the direct dialogue with students and colleagues and the opportunity to work in a creative and dynamic environment. I am also excited about getting to know the new structure and institution, and the chance to learn from and with the people here. I'm also looking forward to the nearby climbing areas - a welcome balance to my work.

2. What is your impression of Nuremberg and the Hochschule für Musik?

I've only had a cursory experience of Nuremberg and the University so far, but I appreciate the openness and communicative nature of Franconian culture. I am particularly pleased with the positive and welcoming atmosphere that I have also experienced at the University. The fact that my position is newly created shows that jazz and improvised music have an important place here, and that makes me optimistic about the future.

3. what are your goals and visions for your teaching activities here?

My vision is to promote the three central tasks of universities: Teaching, Research and Transfer. In teaching, my focus is on the individual development of students - not only teaching them artistic skills, but also supporting their physical and mental health. In research, I want to promote artistic and socio-political issues and bring external perspectives into the discourse. Transfer is particularly important to me - I want to connect the university with (urban) society, actively promote dialogue and live openness.
