News Success Eléonore Cawdrey joins Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester

Violist Eléonore Cawdrey (class of Prof. Andreas Willwohl) has won the audition for the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. The auditions took place from late October to mid-December 2024 in around 30 European cities.

Born into a family of musicians, Eléonore Cawdrey began her viola studies at the age of eight with Françoise Coppey-Thibault at the Conservatoire National de Strasbourg in France.

A few years into her studies, she won first prize at the Epinal National Competition in 2014 and second prize the following year.

In December 2018, she won first prize at the French National Competition for Young Violists. A passionate chamber musician, Eléonore Cawdrey won 2nd prize with her trio at the Mozart Association Chamber Music Competition in January 2024.

Eléonore Cawdrey has taken part in various masterclasses with world-renowned artists such as Pauline Sachse, Jean Sulem, Andreas Willwohl, Wilfried Strehle, Garth Knox, David Gaillard, Françoise Gnéri, Marc Desmons and Gunter Teuffel.

Eléonore Cawdrey has been studying with Andreas Willwohl at Nuremberg University of Music since October 2021.

The viola she played until September 2020 was lent to her by the "Région Grand Est" and made especially for her by Antoine Carbonare, a violin maker from Mirecourt. Eléonore Cawdrey now plays a David Leonard Wiedmer instrument with a Stéphane Thomachot bow.
