Songao Wu (born 1997) began his violin studies at the age of four with Prof. Wang Guan. At the age of seven he became a student of Prof. Yaoji Lin. In 2009, Songao Wu was admitted to the Secondary School affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) with first rank and graduated in 2015. During his time at CCOM, he studied with Prof Weidong Tong and received the CCOM Affiliated Middle School Scholarship. He was also the second violin section leader of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra.
After his studies at CCOM, he was accepted to the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he continued his bachelor studies with Prof. Pierre Amoyal. After his bachelor's degree, he completed a master's degree and postgraduate studies with Prof. Rainer Schmidt.
He received full scholarships to the Morningside Music Bridge Summer Festival in Canada and the Meadowmount Summer Festival in the USA. He also had the opportunity to perform Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola KV 364 with chamber music at the Cervo Music Festival.
As a soloist, he performed with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra at the age of 10, as well as with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra and others.
Songao Wu has won several awards, including first prize at the China Musicians Association Violin Competition in Beijing and finalist at the 10th China National Youth Violin Competition. He won the 3rd prize and the Bach prize for best interpretation at the "Andrea Postacchini" International Violin Competition in Italy, the 3rd prize at the Schönfeld International String Competition and the Beethoven Prize.
Songao Wu has been studying in the masterclass programme in Prof. Daniel Gaede's violin class since 2024.
