Prof Jeremias Schwarzer was elected as a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) in Salzburg in November.

Prof Jeremias Schwarzer has been elected as a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) in Salzburg. The EASA is an interdisciplinary European network of scientists. Its members include leading scientists, artists and government officials, including more than 30 Nobel laureates. The Academy elects its new members on the basis of outstanding achievements in science, art and governance.

Jeremias Schwarzer is internationally recognised as one of the world's foremost recorder soloists. The world premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino's 4 Adagi for recorder and orchestra with the Filarmonica della Scala under Daniel Harding at La Scala in Milan in 2008 attracted great international attention. Since then, Jeremias Schwarzer has performed in the world's most important concert halls, including the Prinzregententheater in Munich, Radialsystem V in Berlin, the Biennale di Venezia, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tokyo Opera City Hall, Harvard University and La Monnaie in Brussels. He has appeared as a soloist with the symphony orchestras of the BR, SWR and HR, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Jeremias Schwarzer teaches Recorder and Contemporary Music at Nuremberg University of Musicand and gives masterclasses, lectures and residencies in Europe, the USA and Asia. He has recorded numerous CDs for Moeck, Genuin, Neos, Wergo, HatHut and Channel Classics.
