Dawoon Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1995. After attending Yewon Art School, Seoul Arts High School and Yonsei University, the Nuremberg University of Music (Master's degree), she is currently studying with Prof. Jakob Spahn in the master class at the Nuremberg University of Music. She has taken part in master classes with David Geringas, Arto Noras and Jérôme Pernoo, among others. She was an academist at the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and currently plays as deputy solo cellist (temporary contract) at the Komische Oper in Berlin.
She has performed as a soloist with various orchestras. For example, in 2019 with the Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation (S.O.N.G.), in 2022 with the Symphony Orchestra of the Nuremberg University of Music, most recently in 2023 with the Schwabacher Kammerorchester, with the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dawoon Kim has also won numerous prizes at major national and international competitions:
2006 First prizes at the Ewon Competition for Children, the Umag-Chunchu Music Competition, the TBC Competition and
2007 at the 15th Vienna International Music Competition Korea, the Peters Music Competition, the Yewon Music Competition, the Sungjung Competition, 1st prize at the 8th National Music Competition of the Korean Chamber Orchestra, 1st prize at the Goyang City Competition, 1st prize at "The Music" Competition
2010: 1st Prize and Special Prize of the Minister of Culture at the Daegu Broadcasting Corporation, Gold Prize at the Sungjung Music Competition
2017: 2nd prize at the 38th Busan MBC Music Competition, 1st prize at the Music Educational New Agency Music Competition
2018: 2nd prize at the 58th Dong-A Music Competition.
