"A gifted lecturer and one of the most important researchers in historical musicology"

Bavarian Top Professorship of the High-Tech Agenda until 2029 - Strong impetus for the promotion of young talent and university development - Minister of State Blume: "Huge benefit for students and inspiring impetus for Germany's youngest University of Music".

The Nuremberg University of Music is delighted to announce the appointment of Prof Dr Susanne Rode-Breymann, one of the most important figures in music-specific gender research, to a newly created top professorship. This guest professorship, funded under the High-Tech Agenda's "The Best for Bavaria" programme, will provide the University and its students with unique opportunities for academic and artistic development. The appointment of one of the most influential academic figures in recent years opens up outstanding opportunities for our university, thanks to her high-calibre portfolio in teaching, research and transfer.

A vision for the future: a focus on gender studies

Prof Dr Susanne Rode-Breymann brings with her an impressive portfolio. Until March this year, she was President of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover, and from 2017 to 2023 Chair of the Rectors' Conference of German Universities of Music. She is currently one of the most important figures in historical musicology in Germany - not only as a researcher, but also as an academic politician and communicator between academia and the arts and beyond.

University President Prof. Rainer Kotzian: "The appointment of this top professorship is an enormous boost for our university. Professor Rode-Breymann brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for gender research that will inspire our students and the wider University community. We are proud to welcome such a distinguished and committed individual to our ranks.

From theory to practice: teaching and research in harmony

With a clear focus on combining teaching, research and artistic practice, Rode-Breymann plans to develop innovative teaching programmes ranging from gender studies to artistic research. Excursions to research libraries and the involvement of students in artistic and academic projects will break new ground in academic education. Special attention will be given to the establishment of an international doctoral colloquium, which will focus on the promotion of young academics.

Rode-Breymann has a great deal of experience in making academia productive and effective for a university of the arts, in developing research specialisms and making them fruitful for everyday life at a university of music.

The Free State of Bavaria promotes excellence at its universities through the establishment of top professorships. Through this programme, the six state art colleges in Bavaria are given the opportunity to integrate outstanding international personalities from the arts and sciences into their work, thus further expanding the excellence of their artistic education. For the Verbund Kunsthochschule Bayern (Association of Bavarian Art Colleges), being included in this funding programme on an equal footing with the universities is an important step in the ongoing promotion of artistic and artistic-pedagogical education in Bavaria.
