Jonas Sorgenfrei is a very busy, creative and energetic musician. He lives and works as a freelance musician in Nuremberg and impresses with his extraordinary artistic development in a very short space of time, the combination of his outstanding technique with great musical talent and his determination to lead his own bands and take them "on the road" throughout Germany.
He is a very alert and in-the-moment instrumental virtuoso who not only plays multi-faceted grooves, but is also very melodic and chamber-musical. He listens attentively to his colleagues and interacts excellently with the soloists. He is also convincing in his dramaturgical shaping of pieces, his willingness to take risks when improvising and his unbridled joy of playing collectively, both in his own music-making and as a successful sideman in various band contexts.
Authentically pursuing your own artistic path requires courage, diligence, vision, perseverance and team spirit. But it is worth it and we can look forward to hearing what we will hear from this talented musician in the coming years.
Vita
Jonas Sorgenfrei was born in Nabburg in 1993. He initially completed a bachelor's degree in jazz drums with a teaching certificate in jazz singing at the University of Music in Würzburg. He completed his master's degree in jazz drums with distinction at the Nuremberg University of Music in 2021.
In the same year, he released "Elephants Marching On" as bandleader in the quartet. His trio recording "Moods" followed in 2022 and in October 2023 a live concert recording of his music in a quartet was released by Deutschlandfunk (all recordings on Unit Records).
Jonas Sorgenfrei plays concerts on international stages, clubs and festivals and has already received several awards, e.g. at the International Jazz Competition "Johnny Raducanu" (Braila, Romania) or at the "Jazzfrühling Kempten".
Jonas Sorgenfrei is part of the music collective "Metropolmusik e. V."
